The new Samsung SGH-a717 is the GSM equivalent of the SPH-M610 that is currently available from Sprint, sharing a very similar design. This very thin and attractive device shares the same feature set as the M610, but the SGH-a717 adds a couple of millimeters width and height.
For a 12.9mm thick folder style handset, Samsung's SGH-a717 includes a rather well rounded feature set. The Samsung SGH-a717 comes packed with UMTS/HSDPA for high-speed data, as well as Bluetooth (with A2DP) for handling short-range applications. A large 2.3″ 262k color screen with a QVGA resolution, perfect for viewing files with the built in document viewer, is accompanied by a small OLED display on the outside of the flip. A multi-format music and video player and 2.0 megapixel camera are backed with a microSD memory card slot for storage, and instant messaging and email support are on hand to utilize the high-speed wireless data rates.
The Samsung SGH-a717 will be available on the Cingular network around the middle of this year, with pricing details yet to be confirmed.
