MUSIC – 2006 saw the mobile handset begin to pull the rug from under the feet of iPod.
For the first time in over 3.5 years quarter on quarter sales of Ipod fell, as consumers eyes up the power and potential of music phones. Sony Ericsson are selling over 1 million 4GB W950 walkman phones every month and Samsung and Nokia also have increasing market share. It has been a year of consolidation in the mobile music market place, with Nokia acquiring Loudeye and RealNetworks buying WiderThan.
