Nokia wants to see phones in games stores
Nokia is making a push to persuade retailers that its next gen smart phones should be sold alongside PSP ad DS systems. The Nseries phones and S60 software are due to be released early next year, with a host of leading developers already signed up to produce content.
Nokia however believes that games retailers need to improve their knowledge of the new “Games Phones” considerably. Game Play on Games Phones is comparable to current dedicated had held games devices. This is certainly going to be a period of swift evolution for the independent retailer.
It is likely that games software for phones will be rolled out alongside traditional games platform software over a variety of the traditional channels.
I suspect there may be some hesitation from the hard-line indie gamers who perhaps see these convergent products as a threat more than opportunity. In 18 months I think we can expect to see game play on phones the norm with a host of different platforms and a vast range of titles that may be perplexing to a retailer who is presently focused on a selection of specialist platforms.
A recent survey from Nokia has revealed an insight into worldwide gaming habits. Research indicates that the average length of a mobile games session is 28 minutes and over 80% of gamers play at least once per week.
